Domain:
I’ve owned aflux since October 10th, 2004. I started my life on the web on March 22nd, 2003.
Prior to aflux I owned annastacy.com. Stacy was my married name. I picked aflux because flux means ‘change’ and according to Ben I’m in a constant state of flux. He really thought I should go with icantevermakeupmydamnmind.com but I thought aflux sounded better.
Hosting:
Aflux.net is hosted by Fluxar. I can’t recommend them highly enough. Not only are the owners some of the best bosses I’ve ever had the pleasure of working for, they are all around good people and one of the last places I know of that think of all their customers as friends. If you are looking for cheap, reliable hosting, I highly recommend them.
Layout:
Original layout can be found at Design Disease. Tweaked a few things here and there to what you see here. You can use any or part of the theme just make sure that you leave the Design Disease and Smashing Magazine credits in place.
Things I changed:
- Deleted top menu and added flickr plugin in it’s place
- Changed “Category” list to a “Navigation” list.
- Switched order of “links” and “archive”.
- Deleted “recent comment” list.
- Added twitter badge.
- Added Intense Debate to comments.
- Modified archive, contact, subscribe pages.
Code:
All tweaking was coded using the wonderful EditPlus v2.12(76).
Tips, tricks and general knowledge from:
Graphics:
Any graphics you might see pop up were made with PhotoshopCS3. If not, they will probably be credited in the individual layout descriptions on on that page.
Photography:
- I use a fabulous Canon 400D XTi for the majority of my shots.
- Sometimes I carry around a small Kodak LS753 when I want to be inconspicuous.
- I use and love my iPhone. Before that I used a Cingular 8525 and before that I used Danger’s Sidekick 2.
Software:
I use some really great software to make everything flow and work smoothly.
- WordPress v2.3.2 - What can I say? It was a pain in the ass to get set up but I did that when it was pretty new still. I’ve set it up several times since and it’s always gone fine. Now that it’s up and running and I’ve gotten some of the plugins installed, I love it. And it’s free!!!
- flickr - I use flickr to archive all my important photos.
- Smart FTP - To upload all this fabulous stuff!!
